'I thought I wasn't going to hear from you for another two weeks'.
'Well, I landed here for a layover and am on leave for another week officially so thought of surprising you' retorted Ryan with a grin.
The duo left the patisserie and headed to a downtown Italian café for dinner.
'So what do you plan on doing for the next couple of days?' asked Gigi.
'Getting someone who knows the way around here coz boy am I dumb.'
Gigi started laughing. It felt different. She felt different as if she hadn't laughed out loud in a long time. This is how she was with Ryan- unfiltered, comfortable and a little less of a kill joy.
'I could show you around provided you're staying nearby. I think I have been here long enough to act as your guide.' said Gigi. 'and you're not dumb. Dude, you have like one of the coolest jobs in the world- flying planes.'
'Not cool as much as sleep depriving, hectic and emotionally destabilizing'
'Well, didn't you just ,essentially, describe every full time job?'
Both of them broke out laughing on this.
'Speaking of full time jobs, how's yours going? To be honest, you didn't seem very satisfied the last time we talked'
'How could anyone be? Getting a grand diploma from one of the finest culinary schools in the world and then ending up working in a local patisserie. My parents are definitely disappointed in me. They just don't show it that often.' Gigi grew sadder
'First off, Panella is not a local patisserie. It's world famous. If they hear you say this, you will kiss your job goodbye. Secondly, you put too much pressure on yourself. Remember what I told you?'
'I know, I know.' said Gigi taking the last bite of her pasta.
The duo left the cafeteria and decided to walk home.
